Hey everyone! I’m Carlos Ferrer, a college student, storyteller, and now, one of the newest voices here on the Set Your Sites blog.
If you’ve seen our recent social media posts, some of you might already know I’ve been working with Set Your Sites for a little bit now. I originally came on as a marketing intern, but over time, I’ve found myself contributing far beyond the usual intern role; bringing my background in video production, media creation, and storytelling to help shape how we present Set Your Sites to the world.
This is my first time formally introducing myself to you, the campers, the outdoor-lovers, and the curious travelers who make this all matter. It feels exciting, and a little surreal, to finally be connecting directly with the people we’re building this for.
I’ll be honest: I’m not an expert camper. I have never pitched a tent (shhh, don't tell my boss), and I still have a lot to learn about trail life and campsite cooking. But I am someone who deeply loves nature. There’s something about a wide-open horizon, a quiet hike, or even watching an ant do its thing that reminds me how interconnected everything is.
This summer, I’m hoping to reconnect with the outdoors more intentionally. I’ve set a few simple goals: visit a national park, go on at least two hikes, and finally go tent camping. In the long term, I’d love to try backpack camping; the kind where you hike all day just to reach your campsite. It’s ambitious, but it’s real.
What I love most about Set Your Sites is the mission. We’re working on making outdoor spaces more accessible and more intuitive, not just for campers, but for the people who manage those spaces. I believe in this project, and I’m proud to help tell its story.
On this blog, I’ll be documenting my process of learning how to “get back out there.” I’ll share what I’m trying, where I’m going, what gear I’ve picked up, and the little things I’ve learned along the way. I hope other newbies find comfort here too, and a reminder that you don’t have to be an expert to enjoy the outdoors.
Let’s figure it out together,
Carlos
